AS A COMPOSER

Márton started to compose when he was 6. The first time when his piece was performed in public was in 1997 when he conducted the theatre play “Sleeping beauty” with his own music.

Since then his main focus in composing has become wider every year. Until this day he has composed 178 musical pieces for chamber groups, orchestra, choirs, electronics.

Vocal music (operas, oratoric works such as songs) are a huge part of this number.

AS A CONDUCTOR

Márton Wirth started conducting his self-assembled chamber orchestra already at the age of 13 when he first composed music for the theatre plays performed by Sziporka Children’s Theatre.

Also still during his school years he conducted several concerts with choirs, chamber and symphony orchestras.

After his studies beside conducting as a guest conductor in Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Poland, Germany and Norway, he also founded two orchestras and a male choir in Hungary.

AS AN OPERA DIRECTOR

At very early time, Márton engaged himself with the music theatre.  As a composer, he wrote 4 operas, 2 Singspiels, 1 musical and 6 scores for theatre plays.

In 2006 he founded the Pécs Chamber Opera which he led for 5 seasons and also the La Bohéme Symphony Orchestra thereafter which was originated as the orchestra of Pécs Chamber Opera.

In 2018 together with coloratour soprano Bernadett Hegyi, he formed the musical group ‘Opera2gether’ which focuses on new approaches to the genre.

CURCH AND SACRED MUSIC

Though his connections to sacred music don’t date back as long as with other genres – as a choir conductor, sacred music has always played a great role in his work.

Later on, after he was baptized in 2011 and especially when he became an organist after moving to Iceland, Márton started to write psalms, a requiem, prayers and masses as well, which now add an excessive number to his works.

He is also the main editor of the new psalm book of the Catholic Church in Iceland.

AS A CHOIR LEADER AND ACCOMPAINIST

Márton has always been related to choirs since his childhood. First, as a choir member, but right since the age of 14 he has also conducted choirs at different concerts in several countries.

He founded his first choir in 2000. Thereafter he worked as a choir master with eight choirs in Hungary, Austria and Iceland.

He also holds courses for amateur choirs focusing on improvisative techniques. To provide material for them he also composes improvisation excercises.

AS AN ARRANGER AND ORCHESTRATOR

No matter if it’s choir, big band, march band, symphony orchestra or any kind of ensemble…. Márton, as an experienced arranger, has the necessary skills for all sorts of projects.

From musical theatre to heavy metal, from jazz transformed to gregorian song to symphonic swing, Márton has worked as an arranger in more than 60 projects and constantly has new ideas and invitations to projects to take part in.

AS A COMEDIAN

Humour and especially absurd and black humour has always been a passion of Márton. It’s enough to think about some titles of his works such as ‘5 pieces you never want to hear in a concert hall’, ‘Monotone cantata’ or ‘Graffiti songs’

In 2019 he started a new project of absurd and funny musical sketches with stand-up elements titled ‘Sorry for your evening!’ The project is currently on standby because of COVID-19, but it will have a fresh start as soon as possible.
